Frequently Asked Questions
About Lash Extensions
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions enhance the length, curl, and fullness of your natural lashes. Individual extensions or lightweight fans are carefully attached to isolated natural lashes using professional lash adhesive. Each set is customized to complement your features and preferred style.
What is the difference between classic, hybrid, and volume lashes?
- Classic: One extension is applied to each suitable natural lash for subtle definition.
- Hybrid: A combination of classic extensions and volume fans creates added texture and fullness.
- Volume: Fans of fine extensions create a fuller appearance, ranging from soft and natural to more defined.
Your style is selected with your preferences and natural lash condition in mind. If you are unsure which service to choose, we can help.
How long do eyelash extensions last?
Extensions gradually shed with your natural lashes, so fullness decreases over time. Retention varies depending on your natural lash cycle, daily routine, and aftercare.
We generally recommend fills every two to three weeks to maintain a consistent appearance.
Your Appointment
What happens during my appointment?
Your appointment begins with a consultation to discuss your desired look and assess your natural lashes. Length, curl, and fullness are selected to complement your features while considering what your lashes can support.
You will recline comfortably with your eyes closed throughout the application. Appointment length varies by service; please refer to the duration listed when booking.
Let us know immediately if you experience burning, stinging, or discomfort during the service.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
- Arrive with clean lashes and no eye makeup, including mascara, eyeliner, or strip-lash adhesive.
- Avoid applying heavy creams or oils near your lash line before your visit.
- Complete any requested intake forms before your appointment.
- Tell us about previous reactions to lash products, current eye concerns, or recent eye procedures.
Can I wear contact lenses?
Please remove contact lenses before the application. Bring your glasses, lens case, and appropriate contact lens solution for your convenience.
Lash Care & Maintenance
How do I care for my extensions?
- Cleanse daily with a cleanser suitable for eyelash extensions, following the product directions.
- Rinse thoroughly, allow your lashes to dry, and gently brush them with a clean lash brush.
- Avoid pulling, picking, or rubbing your lashes.
- Minimize pressure against your lashes while sleeping.
- Avoid eyelash curlers and at-home removal attempts.
Follow the aftercare instructions provided at your appointment, including guidance about water, steam, exercise, and compatible products.
Can I get my lashes wet?
Yes. Keeping your lashes clean is an important part of aftercare. Any waiting period immediately after application depends on the adhesive and products used, so follow the instructions provided at your appointment.
After swimming or sweating, gently cleanse and rinse your lashes as directed. Avoid rubbing them dry.
Can I wear makeup with extensions?
Yes. Choose products that are compatible with eyelash extensions and easy to remove gently.
We recommend avoiding mascara on your extensions, particularly hybrid and volume sets. Avoid waterproof eye makeup and lash curlers, and remove makeup carefully without pulling or rubbing your lash line.
When should I book a fill instead of a full set?
Fills maintain an existing set by replacing shed extensions and addressing grown-out lashes. We generally recommend scheduling them every two to three weeks.
If too few extensions remain or significant work is needed, a full set may be necessary. Contact us before booking if you are unsure which appointment to select.
Do you offer fills over another lash technician’s work?
No. Essntl Beauty does not perform fills over extensions applied by another technician.
If you have extensions from another provider, contact us before booking to arrange the appropriate removal and full-set services. Removal requires additional appointment time and should not be assumed to be included in a standard full-set booking.
Can I remove my extensions at home?
We recommend professional removal. Pulling, picking, or attempting to dissolve the adhesive with household products can damage your natural lashes or irritate your eyes.
Contact us to arrange a removal appointment.
Products, Comfort & Care
Will extensions damage my natural lashes?
Appropriate extension selection, careful application, and gentle aftercare help reduce the risk of damage. Extensions that are too heavy, improper application, and pulling or rubbing can contribute to lash breakage or loss.
We assess your natural lashes when planning your set and may recommend a lighter style or postponing a service when appropriate.
Can I get extensions if I have sensitive eyes?
Contact us before booking if you have sensitive eyes or have previously reacted to lash adhesive, tape, or under-eye pads.
No adhesive can be guaranteed to prevent an allergic reaction. Depending on your history, extensions may not be suitable, and advice from an eye-care professional may be needed before proceeding.
Please postpone your appointment if you have an active eye infection or unexplained redness, swelling, or irritation.
What should I do if irritation develops?
Contact the studio to let us know, and seek advice from an eye-care professional if redness, itching, swelling, or irritation develops or persists.
Eye pain, changes in vision, or significant swelling require prompt medical attention. Do not pull off your extensions or use household products to remove them.
What products do you use?
We use lash extensions and adhesive intended for professional eyelash-extension services. Length, curl, and weight are selected according to your desired style and natural lash condition.
If you have an ingredient allergy or questions about a product, contact us before your appointment so we can review the relevant product information with you.
How do you maintain a clean studio?
We prepare the treatment area between appointments, provide clean linens or treatment coverings, and clean and disinfect reusable tools as appropriate. Single-use items are discarded after use, and hand hygiene is part of our service preparation.
